The American film Moonrise Kingdom (2012) directed by writer/director Wes Anderson is riddled with cultural references. In a film made in 2012 set in 1965 the references are genreally from the 60's however interestingly there are more recent ones. The sound reference to Benjamin Britten's The Young Person's  Guide to the Orchestra plays over this opening scene. This reference explains Henry Purcell's score for Aphra Behn's play Abdelazer. Benjamin Britten also composed Noye's Fludde in which Suzy is acting when she and Sam first meet. This song was composed to be performed in school which although seems too Adult for the children in fact as a reference establishes that they are only school children. There are many more references throughout the film however this sound reference is particular to the opening scene.
